To: Attorneys interested in representing parents in Child Abuse and Neglect cases in the Children's Division

Any attorney interested in serving as an intake attorney representing parents in child abuse and neglect cases should submit a letter of interest expressing his/her interest, a resume outlining his/her experience in child welfare cases, along with an affidavit stating he/she meets the GAL standards:
• Compliance with court-mandated requirements for GAL work established in Supreme
Court Rule 35.01. Compliance may be achieved by:
1. Attending 30 hours of approved GAL education; or
2. Attending 6 hours of approved GAL education during the current and immediately preceding reporting periods; or
3. Where the appointing court makes either a written or on-the-record finding that the
action or proceeding presents exceptional or unusual circumstances for which the lawyer is otherwise qualified by experience or expertise to represent the best interest of the minor.
4. Compliance with Rule 35.01 shall be confirmed annually by sworn affidavit.
The letter must indicate that the lawyer agrees to abide by the Children's Division
Attorney Standards and must be received in person no later than Monday, September 30,
2013 at 4:00p.m. The Letter of Interest and affidavit should be submitted to:

Standards will be available via email by emailing Brian.Neu@wicourts.gov. Please note that the judiciary is currently working on updating the standards, which will be available after September 16.
